Our Community and Environment
Our Commitment
As proud Southeast Alaskans, we pledge to serve as stewards of this land and guardians of our communities. We have a commitment to our guests, our environment, our community, and to protect the Tongass.
Gunalcheesh! to the LingÃt (Tlingit) people who have cared for this land for countless generations. We gratefully acknowledge that we operate and live on their traditional homelands, LingÃt Aani. We honor the relationships between the LingÃt Peoples, the land, their ancestors, and future generations. We are committed to supporting the healing of these relationships.
Our Commitment
Our Guests
Experience true Alaskan Wilderness, as it was meant to be experienced, in small groups led by real Alaskans. We are committed to providing our guests with unforgettable and authentic experiences. Our focus on guest safety and satisfaction is tireless, and our small groups give us the ability to give you individual attention and superior service. Our private trips give us the ability to customize the day down to the last detail, and our small-group trips give visitors an intimate view of what its like to live and play in the Tongass. We look forward to welcoming each and everyone of you to our home!
The Environment
Carbon-negative operations is not a goal that we take lightly. Our partnership with the Alaska Carbon Reduction Fund incorporated extensive research into our operation’s impacts, and a commitment from us to offset at least 25% MORE than we produce. You can read more about the fund and our partnership in this recent Grist Magazine article.
To reduce waste, we work with our caterer to utilize reusable and compostable drink and food containers for all trips. We always prioritize using reusable, compostable, and when needed, recyclable materials. We go to great lengths to track metrics in fuel use, waste, and waste diverted from the landfill, so that we can reduce our impact wherever possible.
We are proud to be Juneau’s first 1% for the Planet program partner! 1% of all of our sales go to support community organizations supporting conservation, regenerative regional development, and combating the global climate crisis. We choose to support the Renewable Energy Alaska Project (REAP), the Sitka Conservation Society, the Nature Conservancy Alaska, and national organization Protect Our Winters. We strongly encourage others to do the same!
Our trips also follow Leave-No-Trace principles, and respect the wilderness value and character of the lands that we visit. We always strictly practice responsible wildlife viewing, and avoid effecting wildlife behavior at all times.

Our Community
Wild Coast Excursions’ goal is to be a model for regenerative tourism in Alaska. In part, that means we follow a triple bottom line approach to measuring success by tracking our impact on People, Place, and then Profit. We support the community through the Alaska Carbon Reduction Fund. The fund raises money from individuals and organizations by selling carbon reductions, which it creates by installing hydroelectric powered heat pumps into low-income community member’s homes. These heat pumps reduce these family’s home heating costs by thousands of dollars per year, and create a small fraction of the carbon compared to the oil burning stoves they replace.
We also support local non profit organizations that create environmental solutions and regenerative development in SE Alaska through the 1% for the Planet program. We are the first business in Juneau to join the 1% for the Planet global movement.

The Tongass
Our trips all occur within the greater boundaries of the Tongass National Forest, the largest forest in the country. As we experience the continent’s “Emerald Edge,” our goal is to educate guests on the interconnected ecosystem you’re visiting, and share our respect for our home. When your trip is over, your soul will be full of the mystery and wonder that is the Tongass.
Our trips always follow Leave-No-Trace principles, and respect the wilderness value and character of the lands that we visit. We always strictly practice responsible wildlife viewing. We are also proud to support organizations supporting conservation and regenerative development in the Tongass through the 1% for the Planet program.
